About US

Ebonyu Transformation Farm Enterprises (ETFE) is a progressive farm set-up in July 2018 based in Kalaki, Eastern Uganda. The farming initiative drives itself on the principles of agroecology applying traditional, modern and sustainable methods to deliver good local employment, strong livelihoods and contribute to effective food security and active food sovereignty. The farming expects the highest quality food provisioning for customers as well as reaching wider benefits within the community. ETFE advances local skills and knowledge in farming practice, horticultural knowledge and indigenous experience. The participation of beneficiaries linked to ETFE will be based on the wider principles of agroecology. From pigs to passion fruit, oranges to honey,ETFE brings traditional wisdom together with modern, sustainable farming systems. Our work enhances local incomes, promotes ecological resilience, and contributes directly to SDGs (UN Sustainable Development Goals).

Our Mission

ETFE is part of a global movement in food provisioning, sustainable farming, and part of remaking rural and agrarian communities. The aim is therefore to apply workable agroecology to help support the UN Sustainable Development Goals SDGs. It adopts the approach of enabling effective prospects for diverse rural livelihoods as part of alleviating poverty and food insecurity in the present as well as the future generations.
On the ground we are a progressive agroecology farming enterprise, which was set up in 2018. Located in Kalaki District, Eastern Uganda, we work towards applying organic farming methods including soil fertility maintenance, mixed water harvesting techniques, local tree protection, seed saving methods and applying a wide variety of local knowledges. This involves ongoing practical responses to the changes in ecosystems and their biodiversity.

Our Vission

In our farming practice, we work purposely with local skills and existing knowledge. Rebuilding local cultural experiences in food self-provisioning, including sharing, exchange and market sales. We aim to work with mixed livestock – for food, building soil fertility through waste, enhancing biodiversity and thereby supporting rural livelihoods. ETFE has a strong interest in promoting trees for the fruit, blossom, soil fertility, shade and supporting wildlife habitats. Beehives have been acquired for local honey, fruit pollination, insect diversity as well as for contributing to health and nutrition. Village chickens are raised for many reasons including homestead pest-control, food and for free-range eggs. We are trialling with passion fruit, guava, tamarind, citrus, banana, moringa and mango for organic juice, daily nutrition and vitamins. We contribute to the local area promotions of crops that are responding to the difficulties of climate change – Bambara bean (Esuk, Vigna subterranea), cassava (Emuongo, Manihot esculenta), millet (Kal, Panicum italicum, Eleusine coracana) sorghum (Bel, Sorghum bicolor), lentils (Aligidi, Okwedu, Apena, Vicia lens, Vigna radiata), beans (Muranga Phaseolus vulgaris), moringa (Moringa oleifera), turmeric (Abisali lango, Curcuma longa), avocado (Persea americana), soursop (Mutomboko Annona muricata) and many more.
